Job Loss

1. Describe types of job loss. How to cope with these kinds of job loss.
Types of job loss can be classified into three types, which are
a. Voluntary job loss, such as resignation,
b. Involuntary job loss, such as termination, retrenchment, company bankruptcy and disabilities due to accidents and illness
c. Retirement.
Coping with the job loss
a. Voluntary job loss
I. Review on financial status to fully utilized the money
II. Study and training to improve the knowledge and skills
III. Notice and aware on the recruitment notices and advertisement to find a better new job.
b. Involuntary job loss
I. Termination, retrenchment, company bankruptcy
§ Seek for career consultation
§ Pay attention to the recruitment advertisement in newspaper, website and so on and attend on career fair
§ Review on financial status to have awareness on how long workers can survive with their current financial status.
§ Studying and training to increase their own capabilities to compete in workforces
§ Starting up a new business if conditions such as financial abilities and experiences were fulfilled.
§ Do the part time job first before getting the permanent job.
I. Disability and illness
§ Encourage the disabilities workers to attend the counseling sessions
§ Let the workers to learn the new basic living skills by attending workshop or activities which are related.
§ Seek for consultation to get the job which is match with their disabilities
§ Claiming the insurants and fully utilize the compensation such as start new business which are capable with their abilities.


2. What are the gender differences in coping with the job loss?
Due to culture expectation and stereotypes, such as male are expected to take a role of breed winner in their family, there are gender differences in coping with the job loss as different gender take different roles. The stereotypes also cause the male to more concern on their self esteems and it lead to the difference as below:
